The Willpower Paradox: Scientific American →
These findings are counterintuitive. Think about it. Why would asserting one’s intentions undermine rather than advance a stated goal? Perhaps, Senay hypothesized, it is because questions by their nature speak to possibility and freedom of choice. Meditating on them might enhance feelings of autonomy and intrinsic motivation, creating a mind-set that promotes success. But, but—what about The...

Samsung on the Retina Display →
A spokesperson for Samsung Mobile Display said that the Retina display offers higher resolution than super AM OLED, but insisted the difference is small. […] “The visibility difference is only 3 to 5 percent. But raising resolution to that level increases battery consumption by 30 percent,” he told The Korea Herald. A perfect illustration of the tech industry’s misguided obsession...

Customers that were not Apple product owners told the Morgan Stanley team that Ipad ownership would discourage them from buying e-readers, notebooks or handheld video game systems. Jobs may as well forget launching an Apple version of a Kindle or a PSP, then. A bafflingly stupid article, made even worse by incorrect capitalization throughout.

Today
Just two months shy of my (so-called) tumblog’s third birthday—and after a year of Tumblr neglect—I’ve discovered that Tumblr really resembles a long-form Twitter. I’ve just “followed” a few other tumble-logs (for the first time) and suddenly my dashboard looks like an overgrown Twitter home page. I’m sure this was obvious to anyone paying attention.

I’m once again feeling uncertain about which medium to use to express my more long-winded thoughts to the world-wide intarweb. And since that line would have fit in a Twitter post, I am now typing an additional postscript.

Update
So I wasn’t going to post in this anymore, as I wanted to reestablish a real blog. Recently, though, I’ve discovered that I don’t really have time for a long-form blog, so the end result is that I just don’t post anything anywhere. This tumble-log, while perhaps not ideal, is quick and easy and keeping it encourages actual publishing of content. In other news, it seems...

It’s half past midnight. I’m lounging in the backyard at the cafe-style umbrella-table, with my laptop in front of me and the dog at my side, as raindrops fall in a circle around us. The dog rises with a creak and pushes his wet nose under the armrest to nudge my hand away from the keys. He plods around the table to do the same on the opposite side. Bored, he flops down, swallows, and...
